Weekly Bunch: Daffodils

A bunch of weekend flowers and a throwback to my college poetry class for you. A piece of one of my favorite poems...

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Excerpt from "I wandered Lonely as a Cloud
by William Wordsworth

May your weekend be full of dancing, wandering, and daffodils!

Weekly Bunch: Beautiful Blooms at the Philadelphia Flower Show

I wanted to share with you this marvelous installation by Beautiful Blooms at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

The theme of this years show was International Flowers. Each vendor set up a scene depicting scenes set from different countries. Donna O'Brien and her team used their imagination to create a topographical map----by using these bud vases hanging from the ceiling.

You'll notice the different colors of flowers and water represent sea, land, tree lines and mountains.

My poor attempt at event photography does not do this installation justice! But can you see how beautiful it was?

I also attended Donna's workshop on "Fashionable flowers." Below is her inspiration board using fashion spreads from magazines...showing how color and texture flows through clothing lines, to home design to the Floral industry.

Here Donna creates a purse out of moss and flowers.
Her statement necklace is a long strand of vintage crystals carrying a live Delphinium pendant.
You can see more work by Beautiful Blooms on their website and blog. If you live in the Philadelphia area her boutique is fabulous and also hosts floral design workshops. Their artful designs are unique and so worth taking a look at!

Weekly Bunch: Florica by Helen James Design

Recently, I stumbled upon the most beautiful flower garden---so welcome during this last stretch of winter and I am so inspired by flowers of all kinds.

FLORICA by Helen James is beautiful collection of delightfully romantic floral head pieces.
Helen James creates each piece by hand using a teqnique that allows each flower to hold their shape and body so each bloom will stay perky long after nightfall.

Take a look at their petals....

The detail crafted into each piece...

The pale and romantic choice of color...

Everything about them is just superb!

Just two year's ago I was searching high and low for a silk flower to wear in my hair as bridesmaid in a friends wedding much to no avail. My locks went flowerless.

Though many options have sprouted up since, these lovely works of art are sure to radiate their beauty long after the flower trend wilts and fades---whether displayed upon head, frock, or dresser top.

Helen James is a designer out of Ireland who set up own label in 2004 after working for Donna Karen in NYC.  Her favorite designers are Dries Van Noten, Alber Elbaz at Lanvin and Marni. You can view her artful and romantic designs can be viewed here.  After feeling inspired to create flowers for a long time, Helen developed a design process that brought her imagination to blossom and started the FLORICA label in late 2009.

Headpieces can be purchased at the FLORICA etsy shop.

I'm a winner!

And it is very nice to feel this way.

Today, Trina at la la Lovely announced that I won her latest giveaway!

My prize is a gift certificate to photographer Sara Norris' etsy site, and what a wonderful prize it is!

Below are a few of my favorite images---just a few I couldn't post them all! I love Sara's soft and sentimental approach to beauty. Each photo brings a breath a fresh air...I smell summer and flowers and fresh cut grass.

I see lovely lovely lovely things.

Weekly Bunch: Dahlia Dreams

I dream of dahlias,
of dahlias I dream.
Please pick me a pink one,
or even mint green.

I'd take a peach one so feathery light,

Or a bright starburst flower
In sugary white!

January winter doldrums have made me spring starved so I am arms wide open for a bunch of these bursts of warm color!
I dream of Dahlias. I really really do.
